Rice bran wax is not pure compound, but ester-type mixture composed of high-grade aliphatic acid and high-grade monohydric alcohol, its physical and chemical properties are superior to Chuan wax and carnauba wax, slightly inferior to beeswax. It is of good use performance.

1. Properties and lustre: brown hard solid, if being highly refined, appears light brown or red brown, if being decolored and refined, appears bisque or light yellow, with certain hardness, crumbly, not viscous, fine crystal and smooth surface.
2. Specific gravity: higher than water and other soft wax like beeswax, slight lower than hard wax such as Chuan wax and carnauba wax. At normal temperature, its specific gravity is 0.97, if be liquid state under 100°C, its specific gravity is 0.78.
3. Expansion coefficient: solid under 25°C is 0.0011, and liquid under
100°C is 0.00064.
4. Melting point: melting point of refined rice bran wax is 78-81°C, higher than beeswax, floor wax, olefin, only slightly superior to Chuan wax, carnauba wax, candle wax.
5. Improving power of melting point: higher than low melting-point waxes such as beeswax, floor wax, olefin, slightly lower than Chuan wax and carnauba wax.
6. Lustre: excellent lustre, 1.2-1.5 times of that of carnauba wax and beeswax, the higher refining, the better lustre is.
7. Solvent absorption ratio: in the middle of Chuan wax, carnauba wax, beeswax and floor wax.
8. Solvent retention ratio: similar to Chuan wax and carnauba wax.
9. Emulsifying property: to form stable emulsion by emulsification, when used as oil-in-water emulsifier, the needed HLB is 6-7, while HLB of low melting-point wax is 8-9.
10. The chemical parameters of rice bran wax include saponification value, acid value and iodic value, etc.
